A Brief History

A Brief History of Chapter XIX

Chapter XIX received its’ initial charter in the spring of 1976 as the Kenneth Woodward Memorial Chapter. Initially our membership came primarily from B/1/11th SFG (A). A list of our charter members when we were reformed in 1997 is listed below.

A major significant event for Chapter XIX occurred in the summer of 1982 when we hosted the annual Special Forces convention in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Sometime later, in the mid to late eighties, the chapter closed due to inactivity and financial difficulty.

Sometime in the early 1990s a small number of former chapter meSF Vietnam til nowmbers began to meet informally and after several meetings they decided that there was sufficient interest to reactivate our chapter. During that time Garry Fink was the driving force to reorganize when he made it his life’s mission to personally contact everyone from the old chapter rosters. It was through his dogged determination that Chapter XIX was brought back to life. That year was 1997.

When our chapter was reborn in 1997 the majority of our members were in agreement that we should give this chapter a new name. Previously this chapter was named for Kenneth Woodward who died in a terrible aircraft accident at the time that this chapter was formed.

Originally, during the process of getting us reestablished, our thoughts were that we should honor Jim Miller who was known and respected by many. Several years later when Ed Muller passed the decision was unanimous that we should add Ed Muller’s name to our organization. At that time we all knew Jim and Ed. They were not only good friends, they were well respected leaders.
