Obituary for Peter S. DeVries

Peter S. DeVries, 89, of Wallington, left this world on Wednesday, January 6th, 2016 to join his beloved wife Helen and son Michael Thomas. Peter was born in Wallington and lived in Hasbrouck Heights and Passaic before moving back to Wallington in 1959. Prior to his retirement in 1991 he was a laborer for the Bergen County Road Department for 10 years. Previously, he worked for the Hamersley Paper Company and Grand Union Supermarkets in Carlstadt. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in WWII and Korea. Peter served with the 2nd Ranger BN – 82nd Airborne Division. He was attached to the Canadian and British Airborne in WWII. He served in Korea with the U.S. Army Rangers, 101st Airborne, Special Forces (Green Berets). He was a life member in the 82nd Airborne Division Association, 101st Airborne Division Association, WWII Ranger Association, Special Forces Association, WWII C47 Club, WWII 1st Allied Airborne Army, Canadian, British and Polish Airborne Associations, French Legion of Honor and French Croix de Guerre Associations, Disabled American Veterans, Wallington VFW Pavlick Koster Post 2640, American Legion, Royal Canadian Legion, Purple Heart Association, Wallington Hillside S.A.C. Peter was the beloved husband of the late Helen (nee Zarkrawski), devoted father of Helen F. Card, and her husband Kenneth of East Stroudsburg, PA, and the late Michael Thomas DeVries. He was the dear brother of the late Henry, Raymond, Louis and John DeVries, Jenny Jackson, Dorothy Jans and Emily Gordon.
