Norwegian Foot March 2023

Norwegian Foot March (NFM), 09 SEP – 10 SEP 2023, start time 00:01 hrs. With the cooperation and participation of Joint Base Mcguire-Dix-Lakehurst

The NFM was first held in 1915 as a test of marching endurance for soldiers in the Norwegian Army. A strategic goal was to be able to move larger units of troops over a great distance swiftly and in a manner that enabled them to efficiently be prepared for combat – even after the march by carrying their rucksack /weaponry of 11 kg. The goal today is to stimulate the general interest of marching over extended distances amongst military and civilian personnel; successful completion of the march will result in award of a distinct badge. Test guidelines and requirements.

The test is a 30 km (18.64-mile) march with a rucksack weighing 11 kg (24.25 lbs). The rucksack must weigh at least 11 kg at both start and finish line. Rucksacks of an approved military model must be used.

Today, the NFM is conducted by multiple units of the U.S. Armed Forces, military academies, and university ROTC elements. With the NJ Chapter of the 82nd Abn Assn and Chap 19 of the SFA, we will conduct a march to Norwegian Army standards on NSA Lakehurst with 90 active duty, reserve component, ROTC, and retired military personnel overnight (0001-0700 hrs) on 9-10 Sept.

Planning and execution is being coordinated with JBMDL law enforcement/security/med personnel, drawing some support from those units.
