Mahlon Dickerson Trail Hike

On 06 August 2022, a planned hike by Chapter Members was coincided with a virtual hike under the Joggin’ For Frogmen virtual hike to remember Extortion 17. On August 6, 2011, a U.S. Boeing CH-47 Chinook military helicopter from the 160th SOAR, call sign Extortion 17 was shot down while transporting a quick reaction force attempting to reinforce an engaged unit of Army Rangers in Wardak province, west of Kabul, Afghanistan. With 38 people killed on board, it was the largest single-day loss of life in naval special warfare history and the largest single-day loss of life during the war in Afghanistan.

The Chapter relied on an old friend and hike master  SGM Ed Young (Ret), of the 102nd Armored Cavalry, who had previously prepped Chapter 19 for the Appalachian Trail Relay we did in 2017. The Joggin’ For Frogmen hike was done in Mahlon Dickerson Reservation in Morris County, New Jersey.
