Staff Ride 2024
On 08 NOV from 1000-1300 hours, Chapter XIX of the Special Forces Association will conduct
a traditional ‘Staff Ride’ to examine the Revolutionary War Battle of Monmouth of 28 June
1778.
Intent is to provide an in-depth understanding of the battle within the larger context of the
war in a state known as the ‘Crossroads of the Revolution.’ The location is the Monmouth
Battlefield State Park2 in Manalapan, N.J.
The concept is for attendees to be sent read-ahead information so as to be generally aware of
the eight-hour battle between British forces of Lord Clinton and American forces of General
Washington. At certain locations, volunteers will give short tutorials or vignettes about
subjects germane to both the battle and the military of the day.
Subjects include:
– Tactics;
– Small arms;
– Artillery;
– Medicine;
– Command and control;
– Aftermath;
– The ‘legend’ of Molly Pitcher;
– And others.
