Vietnam War 50th Commemoration
Chapter XIX partnered with three local AUSA Chapters to recognize and honor Vietnam Veterans in our organizations upon the 50th Anniversary of our pull-out from Vietnam. A ceremony was held on May 1, 2023, in Sea Girt, NJ sponsored by our Chapter and the Fort Dix, Monmouth County (MC) and Northern NJ AUSA Chapters. The support we received from local groups and citizens warmed our hearts. The 254th Regiment NJ ARNG in Sea Girt provided the facilities. Meagan Solomon, Miss Monmouth County, sang the Anthem. Elks Lodge 2534 provided and served the food. Our Chapter and Chapter 12 of the Vietnam Veterans of America set up great memorabilia displays. An anonymous donor sponsored a coin for the event.
MG Chrystal leads the U.S. Vietnam Veteran Commemoration Task Force, and Thy Cavagnaro, a Vietnamese refugee, organizes an annual Veteran Appreciation ceremony in Barnegat NJ and she travels around the area giving presentations about her escape from Vietnam to educate schools and groups on the refugee and Vietnam Vet experiences. About 70 Vietnam Era Vets attended.
